Giving History a Future by Bringing History to Life

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

xmas

Wishing you a very Happy Christmas & a fantastic New Year from all of the Friends of Shoreham Fort. We hope that you all have a nice relaxing break with family and friends.

Thank you all for supporting us, have fun and lets hope you all made it onto Father Christmas’ nice list. It certainly has been a busy year! Not only has the Nissen hut been built, but Gary and Sharon have worked their socks off giving presentations and tours to lots of various groups – the diary is already starting to look full for 2015! In the background our website is being maintained and continuously updated by Andy; our researchers have been hard at work and special thanks goes to Hilary Greenwood for her outstanding articles about things relating to Shoreham Fort and the surrounding area. We’ve also been able to take on board Brian Drury’s research about Shoreham Camp – fascinating stuff, even more so now that we are in the centenary years for WWI.

We’d especially like to take this time to thank all of our volunteers – without them none of this would be possible. Special thanks go to Peter Briggs who created the scale model of the Fort, the model was revealed at our Easter Fun Day and it is certainly something to see. Let us also not forget Craig Searle who has put his time and effort in to creating the videos on our YouTube channel. Last, but by no means least, a massive thanks goes to those who turn up to the volunteer days in all kinds of weather to do things around the Fort from litter picking through to digging and running Food for Fort.

In the coming year we will have our regular events; Easter Fun Day will be on Sunday 5th April; Military History Weekend will be Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th June; Heritage Open day will be on Sunday 13th September; and the Remembrance evening will be on Sunday 8th November. We will be back at the Fort for our regular volunteer days, starting from Sunday 4th January 2015.

Once again we’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. See you in 2015.
