Heritage Open Day

Wow!! What a phenomenal day…

Thank you to everyone who joined us in making this year’s Heritage Open Days a great success.

The tours were HUGE, the cakes, cookies, cheese straws and sausage rolls were demolished and the tea and coffee went down a storm :)

GAPP were brilliant and really created a wonderful atmosphere whilst they were playing.

The Nissen hut was busy all day with people watching Silver Screen and listening to Phil Simons talk.

Steve was exceptionally busy talking about the gun rack and Howard and Ian were incredibly busy talking to people with regards to their respective exhibitions on Bungalow Town and the Houseboats.

The trustees would like to say a massive thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this weekend possible, all the cake makers and bakers, the Airsoft Chaps, GAPP, Ian & Julie Merriwood, Howard & Sarah Porter, Phil Simons and last but no means least, Trevor Povey, for stepping in to help on the last tour and enlightening our guests on the reason the fort was built and what it was protecting – fascinating stuff :)

Fantastically productive day Sunday with Stuart strimming around the inside of the ditch.

It looks so much better now but on walking around it does look like we may have a problem with someone metal detecting on site. This is of course illegal as we are a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

Can we please ask anyone who often walks the area to maybe have a walk around the western side of the inside ditch and if you see anyone doing anything untoward please do ring 101 and report it quoting Ref 1098 1st August 2016, crime number 47160104037.

Thank you

People are genuinely surprised when we tell them how few volunteers we have that come on site on a regular basis to help maintain and conserve the site for the enjoyment of the public. If you think you would like to get involved with this amazing project then please do get in touch or come down on one of our volunteer days. It may look like it's all hard, manual work but there really is a job for all.
