Remembrance Evening
Gary Baines posted in Diary Dates on October 18, 2012 at 11:17 pm

On the evening of the 11th November we are holding our community remembrance event.
This is a chance for the community to remember anyone they have lost, not just those in the armed forces but for people that have lost a battle with illness or that have left us.
Starting at 6pm we invite you to come along for a service and light a candle for your loved one. Candles and jam jars will be available for a small donation on the night and can be reserved by emailing info@shorehamfort.co.uk with the quantity you require.
Once all the candles are lit we will light our beacon fire Basket.
Hotdogs, soup and hot and cold drinks will be available from food for fort.
All monies donated will go towards a memorial bench to have at the fort
Please come along, to what was a very moving event last year and remember those that we have lost, together

RAFA Shoreham Airshow
Over the weekend, we held a stand at the RAFA Shoreham Airshow. Saturday started off with a hectic setting up of the stall, followed by some entertaining aerobatic action! Sunday unfortunately began with some dreary English summer weather, but the day soon brightened enough for some flying to begin!

Next volunteer day (with FREE tours)
On the 16th of September, we will be having a volunteer day (with the free tours as per usual) – This will be at the usual time of 11am till 5pm, with the tours at 1pm and 3pm.
Our events are usually organised on Facebook, but will also be listed here, in the top-left of the website. You can check out the Facebook events page for more information.

Volunteer Day & Dates for your diary

Volunteer Day
On Sunday 19th August, we once again held our fortnightly volunteer day, with tours. Normally we would only do 2 tours (at 1pm and 3pm), but since the weather was so nice, we stayed late, and Pete & Clare ran a special 3rd tour. The day was enjoyed by all, especially as we managed to have a barbecue and a couple of beers after a day of working in the beautiful British summer.
Whilst the tours were being run, we continued to uncover the guard room (adjacent to the original entrance hall). This is a fairly huge task, whilst the room is about the same area as the barrack store, there is about a foot of earth and in-fill above the floor. During the excavation, we found a water pipe that looks like it was added as part of the modifications made to the fort during World War II. Also uncovered was an entrance to the next-door cell (which would’ve most likely been used to keep soldiers who were being disciplined).
Please do check out our progress for the day, in the gallery 19th August 2012

Hi, and welcome to the newly redesigned Shoreham Fort website.
Please take your time to look around to look at the information about this historic site. We have plenty of information, photos and stories to be added, so please come back regularly to check out the latest news.
Thursday 28th June saw the Friends of Shoreham Fort become a registered charity, number 1147869. It’s taken a fair few months to dot all the I’s and cross all the T’s but we have finally done it.!
Sunday 19th August is another volunteer day, so we shall be down at the fort from 11am till 5pm, with free tours at 1pm and 3pm. We hope to see you down there!
