Shoreham Fort

Giving History a Future by Bringing History to Life

A busy year so far…

Easter Fun Day

We’re well in to planning and getting organised for our Easter Fun Day – watch this space for more information.

Research

Hilary’s been at it again, and produced another interesting essay, all about Francis Lyndhurst who started the Film Studio at the Fort. Read all about him here.

Funding

It’s hard to believe that it was three years ago that we finally were able to start taking the condemned coastguard tower down. It was built in the 70’s on top of the original 1857 fabric of the fort and the pigeons guano was about 18″ thick in all floors – yuck!!!

It cost over £36,000 to remove and was only possible as the Port Authority match funded the Pot of Gold Grant that we won.

We still need to raise the rest of the money to get the space useable so if anyone has any suggestions for funding streams then please do let us know…. Funding is one of the hardest parts of this project and as volunteers we would really appreciate anyone’s help and funding advice. Contact us…

Talks and tours

Just a few to mention in no particular order…

  • Worthing Holiday Fellowship
  • The Shoreham Society
  • Small Dole Tuesday Club
  • Seaboard Head Office Retired Group

If you know of any groups that would like a presentation or tour, the please do contact us…

The AGM

Our AGM was held on the 22nd of January.

AGM 2015

Thank you so much to Trevor for sharing his wealth of knowledge and fantastic photo collection of the mystery towers and the concrete ships.

Thank you to all of you who came and supported us – and voted us back in – sorry we couldn’t get you all in the picture!

Thank you to Gary for Sharon’s flowers and Andy’s beers.

And last but not least, thank you to Julie Searle for joining us as a trustee.

2015 has started well and we’re determined it’s going to continue.

For those who haven’t seen it, Craig has once put together an amazing video of the highlights of 2014, which you can see below.
